The wait is over. Hershey Violins has opened a new full-service retail facility on the square of historic downtown Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The new shop will offer the beginning student through the professional player instruments, accessories, and onsite repair services. Scott Hershey, maker of fine violins, violas and cellos for more than twenty-five years will be making instruments at this new location as well. [details]

This new DVD will feature Scott W. Hershey, 25 year maker of violins ,violas and cellos applying spirit varnish in a step by step method that will take the guess work out of this very difficult varnishing process. He will be discussing various resins that are best suited for this medium. Showing how to mix your ground coat and it's application. [details]

This is a photo of a recently completed full size violin making it's way to a customer in New Orleans. This customer is a fine Cajun fiddler by the name of Amanda Shaw. Amanda is a nationally known, young professional musician and actress. Her most recent film debut "Hurricane on the Bayou" has been opening in Imax Theatres throughout the United States. [details]

Scott W. Hershey has been making and repairing hand-crafted, stringed instruments for over 25 years. His making techniques utilize both modern and traditional methods. Hershey Violins 2006 Instrument Production is nearing completion.

The Hershey Violin instrument production line up for 2006 is taking shape. I am in the final stages of plate tuning, final surface detailing and soon to begin the varnishing process on this years group of instruments. Then, the final polishing-out and set up will follow. I expect to have a fine selection of violins and violas completed by this September and October. [details]

A flea market find

Good flea market finds are rare these days, but Jordan Korn, son of Nanette and Daniel Korn, discovered a violin that was full of potential. The neck was broken and the bridge, sound post, strings and other key parts were missing. "We thought, hey, it may not be the best instrument, but if we could get it fixed up, it might be a nice second violin," Nanette said. "There was just something about the way it looked. I had this feeling that it would sound beautiful if it were to be fixed." [details]
